The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided By Religion and Politics
by Jonathan Haidt

If I were to recommend one book this year, this would be it. Reading it is like undergoing a magic spell that grants you the power to grasp the mental wiring of liberals and conservatives, and why we talk past each other. It's also uncommonly well-written and well-structured for a social psychology book. Required reading.
