Historical Fiction
Lincoln
by Gore Vidal
8
I am an admirer of what Vidal has done with history and fiction. His Lincoln is beautifully wrought, at once flinty, vulnerable, jovial, and inscrutable; with a stunning intellect and some unspeakable pain driving him on in the face of unimaginable pressure. But outside of Burr, my experience with Vidal is that he could use a more exacting editor. There are portions in here worth cutting.
