Legacy of Ashes

My sense in reading this was that I had missed out on a massive and vital dimension of American history--nearly all of it horrifying. Far from being a savvy, surgical instrument of American power, the CIA comes across as a savage, bumbling organization whose work often actively derails American foreign policy. Sobering and essential.
