Cryptonomicon

There are so many amazing moments of writing in this book, so many beautifully wrought scenes and inner monologues. And it's fun! It's genuinely funny and the plot is meaty enough to keep you engaged for 1200 pages. But the conclusion is so disappointing. The final combination of characters, plotlines, and timelines just doesn't match the epic efforts of the first 1100 pages. It's ultimately less than the sum of its parts.
